    I think Emerson is saying that when we are at a particular dark time (figuratively speaking) or it's difficult to find our way, maybe suffering hardships/incurring resistance…that's when you actually find your way or gain understanding, you will have a breakthru, a discovery perhaps through personal insights. The journey is unique to the individual and should be! That can be scary/lonely at times but we are never alone, each of us is making our way and all we need is inside to guide us along-it's in those challenging times requiring soul-searching,contemplation, we find enlightment. Conversely during daylight, many often just go day to day, caught up in routine along with everyone else. Just because there is a highly visible road, doesn't necessarily mean it's the right one and there are many we meet along our independent journey which is very different than being one among many swept along as time passes. MARS is wonderful, their music provides so much for me, we have come together to celebrate life, find new friends, enrich each other's life and help one another yet everyone is so unique & quite their own individual like those stars that come out at night -love you my brothers & sisters…and that is all.

    I think that there are many interpretations to this quote, not only in what Emerson had originally meant, but also the reason why I chose to quote it and finally how the reader interprets it again.

    All interpretations are indeed true, as it is how an individual perceives it to be. However, I do agree with how you read that quote, which is how I see it too, self reflection usually comes in the darkest of times. Although I would then go further to say, that no matter how Dark a situation is, the stars are always there to guide you, that there is never total darkness. No matter how something seems, there is always some sort of light, you just have to know which direction to look at.
