Tampa was like a giant family reunion.

December 9th, 2009 · 15 Comments · Uncategorized

Lots of old friends, new faces…our good friend Shark and co took great care of us and put on one of the best shows in the country, our buddy Matt from Kill Hannah came out, and always good to hang with the Chevelle boys again.

17,000 amazing people gave us an unforgettable evening and the moon was full and shining above the crowd.

Everyone in Tampa made us feel at home, like usual, and seemed to know every single song… even the ones that weren’t out yet.

Someone brought my old yearbook from junior high. Wow talk about reunion. I was the only kid who was never still and well behaved in any
of the shots. Some things never change.

Met and interviewed Matisyahu for the upcoming film we have been shooting for the past year and a half. What a smart, talented, and interesting guy. Glad to have met him. Very cool.

Well, ended the night with my pet helicopter (Genghis Kahn) which I almost lost to a barbed wire fence. I’m not big on toys but I had fun with that little guy for a couple days. Warning: don’t fly your pet helicopter in a bus.

Have a loooong drive to Baton Rouge…back to our birth state of Louisiana.

P.S. THIS IS WAR IS IN OUT NOW!!! What do you all think? What’s your favorite song? How do you think this album is different? How did it feel listening to the album for the first time?

Unfortunately, arriving late to reply .. and not in Tampa .. But I can tell you that listening for the first time The album, This Is War, under a blanket of snow, in a compact car in front of the music store … I led the surge of strength and knowledge that I lacked a bit of time!

Thanks for all the excitement! each album is a new discovery, a feeling Target and more! Excuse my English!

    Answering:

1)"What do you all think? How did it feel listening to the album for the first time?"

We are talking about a revolution in all of senses! That is a Shannon Leto album??

The first impression was strange, that's normal. Everyone must to digest a little bit at first.

Some songs I liked at once. Good idea about have fans like chorus, adimirable and noble choise.

The words that you searched to the text are deep, that is a firm point.

But my own opinion is, the best album ever, is the first.

There you got alot of fun and genuineness. There is more rock energy..

    2) "How do you think this album is different? What’s your favorite song?"

This album is really different. In some songs I felt something is still incople, i mean about experimentations, to dare! (except to the chorus fans).

I liked alot the drum's composition. The voice is great, fantastic, wonderful because is malleable. The guitars, and the bass wow,

that is hard to say. That is great, I liked it because I love your band and the sound that you create, but i would like to find more guitars (I am sick of guitars, I'm from the old school!)

I think the sound in this album is more simple than the last two albums, nevertheless beauty, just different and I still have to digest.

But I would like to meet again that deep rock influences that is inside your heart. Who born with rock, died with! Come on! More rock to your older fans!

    Preferences:

*Night Of The Hunter – Yes, yes and yes! Like multiple orgams! That is my favorite song ever in this album (obvious!).

It is like the first album! provocative, a sensuous voice, persuasive sound and composition, wonderful drum, everything is perfect.

Masterpiece song you realized in this album!

Excite me in inside the cutis in every part of my body and makes me feel with alot of energy. The drum is wonderful here.

The first part of voice, remind me to Nickelback (the style of double chorus voice).

*Hurricane- Stranger In A Strange Land – Search and Destroy: Jared, you understand of synth! Very good songs!

Successful experiment. Great interpenetration of sounds, voice, guitars, drum, bass and synth.

*L490 I loved. I can hear some melodic gothic metal influeces in the guitars. Remeber a little bit the Opeth.

-My own conclusion: Musically I think this album wanted satisfy every kind of fans-

    Sorry for my bad english!

Now I can read it better, the album deserve all my congratulations, very good, there is still you, with new ideas, very creative, different. Praiseworthy that, every album is very different. It is not a quality of every bands. that show engagement. Perfectionist and detaleid!

    1) My first impression was, that i'm gonna stop being Your fan. It was THAT different thing.

You know, more pads, deeper sound, less hard, electrical guitar.

    Maybe it's more epic.

But then I told myself, that You are not that kind of people, who are recording CD which is not good enough.

I begun understanding Your new harmony, I begun feeling the energy, hidden somewhere deep in Your sounds… it's the most impressing CD I've ever heard and with This Is War, I got absolutely lost in Your music! ^^

Your new, alternative style, Your feelings, filling this music… it's perfect! With listening to This Is War, I'm feeling full of good energy, with positive vision of the world. I stopped depressing and understood, that I should fight with this life and never, NEVER give up, when life sucks. And now the title of This Is War is my personal, life quote ;)

    2) In one of interviews, Tomo said, that You wanted to keep all of Your posivite energy and Your concerts' power on this album. That Your feelings had a very storng influence on Your music. And that is really great.

You record what You feel and not what people are expecting from You. I really like it and admire Thirty Seconds To Mars because of that. I'm starting the band on my own, and very thank to You, because This Is War has been always helping me in cases, that I wanted to give up with the music. It's really hard to do everything in the band alone, so… THANK YOU, JUST THANK YOU.

This Is War is different because Your 1st and 2nd CD were more in emo style: black, heavy, with metal sound, maybe more… i dunno. Maybe they were more sad or angry. They were emo. And now, This Is War is the complitely opposite!

IT'S FILLIN WITH ENERGY, CALLED "LIFE SUCKS, SO FACE IT"

*three cheers for Jared Leto and Thirty Seconds To Mars*

My favourite song? Hard to say. Maybe "This Is War", "Night Of A Hunter", "Search And Destroy", "L490" and "Stranger In A Strange Land". But You must know, that I'd had to match all of Your songs from This Is War. ;)

    And again,

*three cheers for Jared Leto and Thirty Seconds To Mars*

    Thank You for Your music.

I'm loving the new album. My first impression while listening to it was that it's like a mix of the first two, but with it's own unique aspects. I have friends who aren't crazy about the first album because they think it's a little "out there," but I love it just as much as "A Beautiful Lie" so I'm glad there are elements of both on "This Is War."

My favorite song is "Hurricane." It's the one I put on repeat and never get tired of listening to. It's hard to pinpoint any one reason I love the song – all the elements just work together perfectly, music, lyrics, vocals, etc.

I really like "L490" too. It's the kind of song you play when you're looking relaxation and creative inspiration. Shannon did an excellent job with it.

I've got to say, lately a lot of my favorite bands have been putting out new albums that are a little disappointing. The quality just hasn't been there. I was elated to hear yet another phenomenal 30 Seconds to Mars album. I hope you keep making amazing music. See you in St. Louis!

First of all I know this is SUPER late, but better now than never right?

At first I have to admit I didn't even reconize it was you guys. It was a big change from the hard rock music from the first two albums. I have to admit, I liked your second album the most and got used to that deep drum beat and complex guitar in the back ground, which was in This Is War too, but just not as prominent as it was before. So I guess the those were the Cons, but for the Pros I think this album was much more impowering. I felt it had more meaning and emotions tied into it and with each drum beat I was pushed abit more to fight through all the troubles in my life. It was of course in the other albums too, but I felt it more in this one. I think it was a combination of the strong drum beats, the impowering lyrics and singing, and the chorus of fans in the background. It gave it a kind of "battle cry" feel. It had the perfect touch of hope, challenge, sorrow, and perseverance that jsut blew me away. These songs truely get me throught the day when ever I just want to bang my head againat the wall and give up so THANK YOU SO MUCH!

    My favorites:

    *L490

    *Night Of The Hunter

    *Hurricane

    *Vox Populi

    *Search and Destroy

*Stranger in a Strange Land (very powerful)

*Alibi (I'll aways get back up again now!)

See you in Boston! Can't wait!

I confess, the first impression of the album was mixed.I was a little disappointed…. but then I realized that just did not feel it until the end.Сoncert was the "way to enlightenment ":)…

Now I listen and listen and listen, paste drive to the holes. This album is totally different and I like it now more than anyone, da.It is so much positivity, faith, it is so inspiring !Music-oo you guys are so original ,the chorus of fans, these drums … where is still possible to hear ?

I do not know .. I can not choose which one song …Alibi? "Night of the Hunter" ?Hurricane? "Kings and Queens?Search and desrtroy.. and yet it seemed to me that Jared impressed by Sigur ros

a bit hit in the post rock (especially in the song alibi )

I think that this album will appreciate the real connoisseurs of this group.because This is a new level, a new stage, new music. This is war

this album blew my mind and my heart .spasibo

    i love u guys

I love the fact that there is a story behind this album. That it is much more than just a collection of songs put together to make money. You fellas exceeded my expectations with the album and the live show; and that's not just me being a sycophant.

This is a little late but I just ran across this post. It's so rare to find an album that you are completely in love with but This Is War is one of those for me…the lyrics, the music, the vocals, everything. The whole thing is so emotional. It feels very cohesive…like your reading a book. It's pretty clear from the music that you have been through alot since the last album. The early front runners were Kings & Queens & This Is War. They just have an epic feel. That feeling you get when you're watching a fantastic movie & it has an amazing song that goes with it which makes the experience 100 times better & you remember it everytime you hear that song….that's the feeling I get from Kings & Queens & This Is War…except they're so good you don't need the movie! Night of the Hunter & Search & Detroy were the next ones to creep up on me. Lately, Closer to the Edge has been a favorite & I can't get enough of Alibi. I love it more & more everytime I listen to it. At this point, its impossible for me to pick a favorite. I just love the album from top to bottom! Although I loved your first 2 albums this is definitely my favorite…and that's hard for me to say since The Kill was the first Mars song I ever heard & the reason I fell in love with your music. You never forget your first. ;) Don't ever stop making music!!!!

"I was the only kid who was never still and well behaved in any of the shots. Some things never change" – i want to kiss u, u know, "- j"?

'What do you all think?'' – it's amazing, yeah. But… I hope that 4th album won't be clear industrial. Jay?

"What’s your favorite song?" – awwww too hard to choose. I love it all. May be… Alibi?

" How do you think this album is different?" – yess, it's completely different, but it's pretty good. Thirty Seconds To Mars has to grow up, to develop, to improve, u know, cuz it's "living, breathing thing" ;]

" How did it feel listening to the album for the first time?" – a little strange, to be honest. U know… After "30StM" and "ABL"… It's very bright and positive album, especially considering at what time it was writen.

Congrats. U are cool, guys xo
